Immerse yourself in the magic of cinematic music with the Barrier Reef Orchestra’s upcoming concert, “Epic Film Scores.”

Prepare to be swept away by iconic melodies from the silver screen, featuring an extraordinary musical journey that starts with the lively “Mambo” from West Side Story – an electrifying and iconic sequence within Leonard Bernstein’s musical masterpiece that highlights both the cultural diversity and the simmering conflict that defines the world of West Side Story.

This is then followed by the evocative “Symphonic Suite” from On the Waterfront, Leonard Bernstein’s compelling, powerful score for Elia Kazan’s 1954 movie is a tour de force of emotional intensity and vivid storytelling through music.

The concert concludes with the unforgettable “Star Wars Suite for Orchestra” a composition that brings to life the iconic themes and motifs from the beloved Star Wars saga.   Created by John Williams, this suite is arranged for symphony orchestra, and features a rich tapestry of music encompassing the Star Wars universe’s adventurous spirit, drama, and emotional depth, by transporting listeners to a galaxy far, far away.

Featuring our guest conductor Theodore Kuchar

Theodore Kuchar hardly needs an introduction to Townsville audiences as he is one of our celebrated sons. He founded the Australian Festival of Chamber Music and was its Artistic Director for 17 years. The Townsville City Council together with AFCM established the annual Theodore Kuchar Music Scholarship in recognition of his contribution to the development and enhanceent of this city's cultural identity.

Multiple award-winning conductor Theodore Kuchar is one of the most recorded conductor of his generation and appears on over 130 compact discs for the Naxos, Brilliant Classics, Ondine, Marco Polo and Toccata Classics labels. Having recently accepted the positions as Principal Conductor of the Ukrainian Festival Orchestra and Principal Guest Conductor of the Ukrainian National Opera and Ballet in Lviv he has served as the Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of two of Europe’s leading orchestras, the National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine and the Janacek Philharmonic Orchestra (formerly the Czech Radio Orchestra) while also serving as the Principal Conductor of the Slovak National Symphony Orchestra and Slovak Sinfonietta...
