Poster for the GBRO concert "Hallelujah!"

Hallelujah brings together the Great Barrier Reef Orchestra and The Townsville Choral Society Choir for a powerful evening of live music, conducted by Tom Wood and featuring violin soloist Doretta Balkizas. Tom is an Australian specialist opera conductor currently working in Germany.

This diverse program blends well-loved classics with moving modern works. Audiences will enjoy Dvořák’s Gloria Mass in G, Lauridsen’s reflective Sure on This Shining Night, and stirring choral favourites like Verdi’s Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves, Handel’s Hallelujah Chorus, and Orff’s dramatic O Fortuna from Carmina Burana. Violinist Sulki Yu shines in Piazzolla’s Four Seasons of Buenos Aires, while the orchestra also performs Franck’s sweeping Symphony in D Minor.

Whether you’re a classical music fan or new to orchestral and choral performances, Hallelujah offers an engaging and accessible concert experience, full of energy, emotion, and variety.
